Basic Safety

Basic Safety classes are currently scheduled for May 24, June 20 and August 1, 2020. Classes provide information as to basic safety rules for safe firearms use, as well as specific information as to how to safely load and unload various popular firearms, the differences and similarities between rifles, handguns and shotguns, and some of the history involved. These discussions will take place in little grove of trees just south of the parking lot located at the main office. The class will conclude on the range, with an opportunity to try out various popular firearms, all under the supervision of certified instructors. These classes are offered at no charge. No FOID is required. Participants should dress according to the weather, however, please do not wear sandals. Eye and ear protection is required. Younger students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A waiver is required.

ASC has had a long tradition of hosting Hunter Education classes for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The traditional class will take place on consecutive Saturdays, August 15 and 22, 2020. Class will be held at the Clinton Township Community Center in Waterman. On the 15th, registration will begin at 11:00 am. On the 22nd, class will begin at 12:00 pm. On both days, class will end by 6:00pm. Students under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

We also provide access to the Field Day program, which is required for students under 18 years of age who choose to take the Hunter Education class on-line.  The Field Day program is scheduled for July 18, 2020. In order to attend this class, the student must have completed the online classes and bring with them a printed copy of the voucher that is dated within 1 year of the class date.
