ASC Illinois Precision Rifle Steel Challenge
The ASC Precision Rifle Steel Challenge (ILPRSC) is a fast-paced, practical long-range shooting discipline that tests real-world rifle skills from barricades, obstacles, and unconventional positions. Shooters will engage steel targets from 200 to 600 yards under time constraints across multiple stages.
This discipline is not just for bolt guns. We actively encourage gas gun shooters, including AR-15 and AR-10 platforms, to participate. Stages and target sets are designed to fairly challenge both bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles.
What to Expect
- 8–10 stages per match
- Steel targets from 200–600 yards
- Known-distance targets (good DOPE required)
- Barricades, props, and positional shooting
- Challenging but achievable target sizes
- Typical match duration: 3–4 hours
- Any remaining time is often used for open/free shooting
This is an excellent next step for shooters coming from action shooting disciplines who want to extend their rifle skills to distance.
Match Schedule
Matches are held on the SECOND SATURDAY of each month, April through October.
(No September match due to the ASC Zombie Shoot.)

Gas gun shooters are especially encouraged to attend.
Divisions
There are two divisions:
🔹 Bolt Gun OPEN
🔹 Gas Gun OPEN
- Bolt gun and gas gun shooters will shoot separate courses of fire
- Target differentiation is by shape
- Bolt Gun: squares, circles, and animal targets
- Gas Gun: IPSC silhouettes and animal shapes
- Bolt gun and gas gun shooters will ideally be squadded together
If there are not enough gas gun shooters to justify a standalone squad, bolt gun shooters may be added to maintain match flow.
Calibers & Ammunition
- Magnum calibers are not allowed
- Maximum muzzle velocity: 3200 fps
- Typical calibers include:
- .308
- 6.5 Creedmoor
- .260 Remington
- 6mm / 25mm
- .223 Remington
Larger calibers and smaller calibers using heavier bullets are generally easier to spot. RO/Spotters cannot always guarantee visual confirmation of impacts or misses with small-caliber lightweight bullets. Flashers and other hit-indicating devices will be used when possible.
Bring 100 rounds to each match.

Some stages may restrict the use of support bags, tripods, or props.
Match Rules
- ILPRSC will follow the MODIFIED PRS 2025 rule book for scoring, match points, and safety.

- Shoot what you bring
- You must compete in all stages with the same rifle
- You must attend the mandatory safety brief and adhere to all safety rules
Scoring
Match Scoring
- Each target impact is worth 1 point
- The match winner receives 100 points
- All other shooter scores are calculated by dividing their score by the winner’s score and multiplying by 100
Season Points Race (ILPRSC)
- Shooters’ top three match scores count toward the season total
- The finale match is worth double points and may count as the third match
- The shooter with the highest total points after the finale is crowned the ILPRSC Champion
The ILPRSC is not affiliated with the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) for the 2026 season.

Welcome to the Aurora Sportsmen's Club 3 Gun Page
Whether you are a veteran 3 gun shooter or just picking up the sport for the first time, 3 gun at Aurora Sportsmen’s Club is the place to go. Our monthly matches operate from April-September, and typically consist of 5 stages, all done within a single day of shooting.
3 gun is one of the premier action shooting sports where competitors use three different firearms—a modern sporting rifle (MSR), a pistol, and a semi-auto shotgun.
Matches generally involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will use different firearms and require the shooter to transition between them.
Targets may include clay pigeons, steel knock down targets, Texas stars, spinners, plate racks, and carboard targets, as well as any other prop or target that the match director designates as challenging enough. Distances of targets may vary, from 1-600 yards, and may be a static target, a moving target, or a flying ariel clay target. The shooter who can navigate the course of fire the fastest with the least number of penalties is the winner!
When are the matches?
For 2026 we will host an “Intro to 3 Gun” practice day on 4/11/2026. That is a perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the sport, introduce new shooters, or practice specific deficiencies you may have to level up your game. Our match directors and seasoned 3 gunners will be onsite and willing to help you.
For 2026 our standard match dates are 4/25, 5/9, 6/13, 7/11, 8/8, 9/19, and 10/10.
We will send out notices if our schedule changes or if we add additional matches.
What is the timeline for a typical match?
Stage building begins at 7:00am and all shooters must be present for stage building. Safety brief begins after stage build concludes, and shooting begins immediately following. Scores are posted online after cleanup is finished. All shooting takes place on the East side ranges. East side ranges can be accessed on the road between the 100 and 200 yard ranges.
