Whether you are a veteran 3 gun shooter or just picking up the sport for the first time, 3 gun at Aurora Sportsmen’s Club is the place to go. Our monthly matches operate from April-September, and typically consist of 5 stages, all done within a single day of shooting.
3 gun is one of the premier action shooting sports where competitors use three different firearms—a modern sporting rifle (MSR), a pistol, and a semi-auto shotgun.
Matches generally involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will use different firearms and require the shooter to transition between them.
Targets may include clay pigeons, steel knock down targets, Texas stars, spinners, plate racks, and carboard targets, as well as any other prop or target that the match director designates as challenging enough. Distances of targets may vary, from 1-600 yards, and may be a static target, a moving target, or a flying ariel clay target. The shooter who can navigate the course of fire the fastest with the least number of penalties is the winner!
When are the matches?
For 2025 we will host an “Intro to 3 Gun” practice day on 4/12/2025. That is a perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the sport, introduce new shooters, or practice specific deficiencies you may have to level up your game. Our match directors and seasoned 3 gunners will be onsite and willing to help you.
For 2025 our standard match dates are 4/26, 5/10, 6/14, 7/12, 8/9, 9/20, and 10/11.
We will send out notices if our schedule changes or if we add additional matches.

The purpose of Practical Rifle is both competition and skills development. This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and challenge your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most shooters can't practice on a range. Competitors will face new scenarios each month.
Attendees typically use modern, magazine-fed, semi-automatic rifles such as AR-15s, AK variants, Springfield M1As, etc. Bolt-action rifles are not recommended since some stages require magazine changes. Shooters should plan on firing about 150 rounds.
Up to 4 magazines may be utilized on a single stage, and your favorite mag retention system is encouraged. We do not impose limitations on firearms or ammunition; all calibers and legal equipment is welcome. Optics are shooters choice, iron sights, red-dots, and magnified optics are all welcome. Practical Rifle is a great opportunity to gain experience with all your gear!
